What is .RAR?
RAR is one of the most popular file compression methods being used nowadays. Its program is similar to the compression method of another equally known format called Zip. It was developed by Russian programmer Eugene Roshal from which its name, Roshal Archive was derived. The term Rar files actually refer to a collection of several different files which were compressed together in what you call archives. With the use of mathematical algorithms, large files are converted into smaller ones which save the user some disk space. In comparison with Zip archives, Rar archives are smaller by 8 to 10 percent but the compression process takes a little bit longer than Zip.
Rar file formatting gives several benefits, the first one of which is redundancy. This feature enables the repair of damaged archives. It also provides support for non-English alphabet characters so that file names in other alphabet forms can be used. As such, Rar can readily be used in other countries which use different alphabets like Russia.
Rar archives have a feature called lossless compression wherein compressed files are decompressed into what they originally were. JPG photo files and MP3 music files, on the other hand, undergo lossy compression because they lose some of their quality while they are being compressed.

Remarkable archival software!
Support many file format with convivial Windows Explorer integration and a somewhat intuitive GUI, although I think most user prefer the former so it's no problem. The native file format .7z is my favorite as it's more efficient than others.

How-To Use RAR Extractor?
Rar format is a good way to send and download heavy files or groups of files because they take up lesser disk space when archived. However, this format is not supported by any kind of computer operating system. Thus, you need a separate program to de-archive a .rar file.
Furthermore, a program cannot work directly from a .rar file so there is a need to extract files to a particular folder in your hard drive for it to work.
There are two ways to open and to use .rar files:

2. Drag in RAR file (Drag the RAR archive you would like to open onto Archiver.)
3. Click Extract (Click Extract and sit back while Archiver opens the RAR archive.)

You can either extract the file to a specific folder by selecting "Extract to" or you can extract the files to their original location.
